Peekbrace

Turns raw JSON in a Chrome tab into a tree you can fold. The extension makes no network requests.

Paused

Paused and not available. Peekbrace is not on the Chrome Web Store, and there is nothing to install yet.

Version 0.1.6, October 2026. Read the privacy policy.

What it does

What does it do?

Open a JSON URL or an API response and Peekbrace shows it as a tree with item and key counts. Click a key to see and copy its path, such as $.data[0].address.city. There is a raw, pretty-printed view with one-click copy, and a light, dark or system theme.

Large numbers like 9007199254740993 are shown and copied exactly as written. Invalid JSON gets a clear error message. Very long arrays and objects show their first items, a count of the rest and a Show more button, so big files stay fast.

Permissions

What permission does it need?

One. This is the line from its manifest:

"permissions": ["storage"]

It uses it to save three settings: on or off, theme, and how deep the tree starts collapsed. If Chrome Sync is on, Chrome syncs those settings between your own browsers.

To spot JSON on its own, a small script runs on every page you open (<all_urls>). On a normal web page it stops straight away and changes nothing. JSON is processed on your device and never leaves it.
